Devotion to parents, for which he killed his mother:

Parashuram was a true example of bravery. He was completely devoted to his parents. Once Parshuram's father sage Jamadagni got angry at his wife Renuka. Renuka once went to the river bank with an earthen pot to fill water, but due to the arrival of some deities on the river bank, she got delayed in returning to the ashram. Sage Jamdagni, through his power, found out the reason for Renuka's late arrival and became more angry at her. In anger, he called all his sons and ordered them to kill their mother. But the sage's four sons Vasu, Vishwa Vasu, Brihudhyanu and Brutvakanva, expressing their love for their mother, refused to obey their father's orders. Due to this, sage Jamadagni got angry and cursed all his sons to turn into stones. After this, sage Jamadagni ordered Parashurama to kill his mother. Following his father's orders, Parashurama picked up his weapon, the axe, and after bowing his head at his feet, immediately killed his mother Renuka. On this, Jamadagni was satisfied with his son and asked Parashurama to ask for the desired boon. With great cleverness and wisdom, Parshuram, out of love for his mother Renuka and his brothers, asked for the boon of bringing everyone back to life. His father fulfilled his boon and gave new life to his wife Renuka and four sons. Sage Jamadagni was very pleased with his son Parashurama. Parashuram set an example of his love and dedication towards his parents.

Oath to destroy the Kshatriyas:

Once on earth, Kartavirya Sahasrajuna, the king of the Kshatriyas, killed Parashurama's father, sage Jamadagni, and his Kamdhenu cow. This made Parashurama very angry and in anger Parashurama took an oath to kill all the Kshatriyas and free the entire earth from the dictatorship of the Kshatriya kings. When all the Kshatriyas on earth heard this oath, they started running away from the earth. There was no Kshatriya left to protect the earth. Therefore, Sage Kashyap ordered Parashurama to leave the earth. Following the orders of sage Kashyap, Parashuram went to live on Mahendra mountain of Mahendragiri. There he performed penance for many years. From then till today Mahendragiri is considered to be the residence of Parashuram. Mahendragiri is situated in Gajapati district of Orissa.
